Waibel et al. (1999) suggest that a cooler stratosphere could inhibit an important mechanism that protects ozone in the upper atmosphere. Thus future global warming could delay the recovery of ozone layer or even enlarge existing holes in the layer which serves to protect earth from damaging UV rays (Waibel et al. 1999).
